Our Tutors Meet the Highest Standards
Each of our tutors has more than five years of prior teaching or tutoring experience. They have all graduated at the top of their college classes and many hold graduate degrees. In addition to the subjects they teach, many of our tutors are also trained to assist gifted students and students with learning differences. Our tutors make will work with your child right in the comfort of your home. We serve Larkspur, San Rafael, Tiburon, Corte Madera and Mill Valley, California.
A Marin County native, Seth moved to the east coast to attend Georgetown University where he majored in government. Seth is currently living in Corte Madera while he finishes his second baccalaureate in chemistry. Though able to bring insight and clarity to a variety of different subjects, Seth specializes in chemistry tutoring and standardized test preparation. When not teaching, Seth spends his time woodworking, running, climbing, and reviewing current affairs.
Laurie is a licensed and practicing math and science teacher in Marin. She recently graduated University of California, Santa Barbara with a Masters in Education and received a California Teaching Credential. Laurie also completed her undergraduate work at University of California, Santa Barbara and received a B.S. in Biological Sciences with a minor in Education. Laurie's strengths are: Algebra 1, Algebra 2, geometry, science and study skills. In her spare time, she coaches a girls volleyball team.
As the founder and director of Marin Tutors, Shannon is dedicated to helping students reach their educational dreams. Having taught and tutored math for every grade level from first through twelfth, she has worked as a mentor for students for twenty years. A graduate of U.C. Berkeley, Shannon holds a B.A. in Economics. She also graduated from Boston College with an M.A. in School Counseling. She tutors Advanced Algebra, geometry, science and essay writing. Some of her current students attend Redwood High School and Marin Academy.
Garrow is an academic coach whose K-12 students look up to him as a role model. He has a way with students that is patient, methodical and kind. Garrow is currently in a master’s degree at Cal Berkeley and also has an undergraduate degree in physics from Cal Berkeley. He’s a fantastic addition to our team and tutors in the following subjects: Advanced Algebra, Geometry, Calculus AB, Honors Physics, Physics, English, Biology and College-level Trigonometry and Calculus. Garrow also home schools K-9 students in all subjects.
A native of Marin County, Gadiel attended the Branson School for high school. Gadiel earned a B.S. degree in Psychology from UC Davis. Gadiel holds a Master's degree in Education and a California Teaching Credential. He has taught high school mathematics at Marin Academy. Having tutored math and the SAT/SSAT for over 10 years, he has experience working with students of all ages. Gadiel is a huge sports fan, coaches high school volleyball, basketball and baseball, and enjoys exploring the outdoors of Marin and San Francisco.
Alexandra is one of our select group of peer tutors who is also a National Merit Scholar. She scored 1520 on the SAT and is applying to both Stanford and UC Berkeley. Alexandra has a 4.4 GPA and tutors middle school math, reading, writing, Algebra 1, Advanced Algebra, Geometry, Calculus AB, the SAT 1 and 2, Honors Physics, Physics and English.
Josh is a young and energetic Advanced Algebra, Geometry, Calculus and Statistics tutor and a very talented Physics tutor. He has extensive knowledge of multiple cultures obtained through abroad experiences in Japan, South Korea, Germany, Spain and Italy. Josh graduated from San Diego State University and scored 5/5 on his Calculus exit exam. He is a fabulous debate tutor and coach and won three out of four national debate competitions.
Katrina is a trained Lindamood-Bell tutor with several years of both teaching and tutoring experience. She has taught special programs at Marin Academy and is formally trained in L.I.P.S., Verbalize/Visualize, and Seeing Stars Lindamood-Bell reading programs. She also tutors elementary and middle school math, writing and spelling. Katrina is a time management and organizational skills coach for all grade levels.
Rebekah has a masters and undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley and tutors any level of math from Algebra through Calculus. She is an experienced chemistry tutor and fluent in Spanish. Rebekah tutors all middle and elementary school subjects as well. Rebekah is also well-versed in tutoring language arts subjects such as social studies, U.S. history, English and writing skills.
Joshua has been a tutor for more than 10 years. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from UC Davis and currently tutors in Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Statistics, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Chemistry, Biology, English, History and Physics. Joshua also has experience tutoring 8/9 PSAT, PSAT, SAT, Subject SAT(Math I/ II and Chemistry) and ACT prep.
Zach is a current graduate business student and has six years of math and writing tutoring experience for grades 5-12. He is currently pursuing a degree in Business Management. His key subjects of expertise are Algebra, Geometry, middle school math, writing skills and Calculus. He also has experience tutoring Spanish. Zach has led several student leadership teams and has a knack for making strong connections with kids. He is also an avid cross country and track runner.
Amanda's degree is in Political Science. She has extensive experience in tutoring high school and college students in math, Algebra 1 and 2, biology, integrated science, chemistry, writing, organization skills and Spanish. Amanda is the lead tutor of the Dominican tutors program in math and science at San Rafael High School. In her spare time she enjoys hiking and yoga.
Lyz began working with the Los Angeles Unified School District in 2010 as a teacher's assistant for English as a Second Language (ESL). She later worked as a freelance tutor focusing on tutoring math and Spanish. She is currently a student at UC Berkeley majoring in Global Studies. She tutors all levels of Spanish through Spanish 7/8 as well as English, Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1.
Chris has both a BA and MA in mathematics and has taught mathematics and science at Lowell High School in San Francisco for 10 years. He specializes in Physics, Honors Physics, Pre-Calc., Calculus AB, Calc. BC, Chemistry, Honors Chem., Geometry, Algebra 2, English, History and Linear Algebra. Chris also teaches students study skills and organization skills. His current hobbies are golfing and traveling.
Karen-Meredith is a dedicated SAT tutor and English/writing skills tutor for middle school and high school students. She tutors students in all aspects of the SAT verbal sections including the essay, reading comprehension and vocabulary/sentence completion sections. She holds a BA in English Literature from Northwestern as well as a teaching credential. Karen-Meredith has tutored every level of English including AP English for seniors and college application essays.
Jennifer has been a math instructor and tutor in Marin County for many years. She received her Bachelor's degree in Global Studies and French from UC Santa Barbara, during which she spent a year abroad in France. Jennifer is fluent in both French and German. Currently she works as a math instructor in Mill Valley at a small special ed school for children with ASD. She specializes in tutoring K-8 math and has received training in Making Math Real and Pivotal Response Treatment. She has more than 10 years of experience working with youth and has a passion for making learning fun.
Cheryl attended both Yale and Stanford, holding an undergraduate degree in Biology and a Masters Degree in Environmental Studies. She has worked as an educator and biologist for 20 years. Her three years of educational volunteer work includes teaching children in grades K-6 about science at the Waikiki Aquarium on Oahu. Cheryl excels at finding different ways to approach problems and drawing on the strengths of her students, whether they are audio, visual or kinetic learners.
Zach graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, where he majored in Chemical and Nuclear Engineering. In his time there, he continued to hone his teaching skills by tutoring student-athletes in all subjects. He takes the greatest pride in working with students on an individual level and watching them grow both as students and as people. Zach tutors all math, but he particularly enjoys working with students in algebra and calculus. He has experience tutoring in chemistry, physics, and music. Zach also tutors 7th and 8th grade writing, math and science.
Chelsea attended Marin Catholic and then Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. There she obtained her B.A in Liberal Studies and a minor in Education. Chelsea holds her California Teaching Credential for Grade 3. Chelsea specializes in tutoring students in Grades K-5 in language arts, reading and math.
Sam is a credentialed elementary school teacher as well as a former lead math and science teacher for grades 4-8. Sam holds a B.A. in Economics from U.C. Berkeley and an M.A. in Education. Sam has tutored kids from grades 1 through 11 in all core subjects including reading and writing. In his spare time he likes to cook, play basketball and spend time with his two amazing daughters.
David has taught and tutored English, reading and writing for the past six years. While receiving his B.A. in English Literature, he was a peer tutor, working with small groups of students. While receiving his M.A. in Literature, he taught Writing and Rhetoric I & II to university undergrads. David then received his M.F.A. in Game Design from NYU. David believes strongly that students should be in control of their own academic work, and they should find a way to study and learn what works for them in particular. Specializing in grade 2-12 and college level writing , reading, executive function and time management, David is well equipped to help each student find his or her own path to success.
Ana holds a master’s degree in international business from HULT International Business School in San Francisco. After working at a financial advisory firm and at a manufacturing company in the semiconductors’ industry, she decided to go back to school and pursue a master’s degree in public administration, with a focus on sustainable management, from Presidio Graduate School in San Francisco. While in grad school, Ana also
pursued the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, and is currently a candidate for the third and last level of the exam (June 2019). In the past, she also worked as a teaching assistant in managerial economics at a graduate level, as well as a teaching assistant in quantitative methods for business administration. She has been tutoring for the past three years, focusing on the areas of economics, corporate finance and financial and managerial accounting.
